When you live in central Alabama, a truck or SUV is an essential vehicle. The mix of highways, city traffic, tough backroads, and occasional off-road excursions demand a versatile machine. Furthermore, a good truck or SUV will let you bring family and friends along while getting noticed on busy Birmingham roads.
Chevy has long been a leader in the truck and SUV segment, but over the last few years, they’ve redoubled their efforts, responding to the demand for high-quality vehicles. The next time you head to a car dealer for a new truck or SUV, keep the Chevy nameplate on your radar. There are many reasons they offer the performance, value, and style that Alabama drivers expect.
Options for Every Adventurer
People have different desires for their trucks and SUVs. Some need a heavy-duty vehicle to lug trailers full of construction equipment or travel over steep hills. Others want a solid, extra-roomy road vehicle with luggage space. You may prefer something in between that works well on the main roads but can handle the occasional excursion off the beaten path.
With GM’s focus in recent years on trucks and SUVs, they’ve come up with models that cater to every type of driver in central Alabama. The Chevy truck line-up includes the all-around ruggedness of the ever-popular Silverado, the compact Chevy Colorado’s nimble off-road design, and the Silverado HD’s workmanlike power. SUV diehards have the affordable day-to-day comfort of the Chevy Trax compact crossover, the modern style and larger interior of the Chevy Blazer midsize crossover, the family-meets-thrills combo of the Chevy Suburban, and much more.
Expanding EV choices have also been added to the Chevy line-up. The Silverado is available in an all-electric edition, as are the Equinox and Blazer EVs. With a total of 13 truck and SUV models, dozens of possible trims, and various custom packages, you can get a Chevy that does whatever you want.
Model Refreshes Mean Better Performance and Comfort
The world is constantly moving forward, and a vehicle that sets the pace will stand above the race. Chevy recognizes the evolving needs and trends and has responded with more than year-to-year tweaks. No less than five Chevy SUVs and trucks have received major overhauls in the past year. Here’s a brief look at the highlights of each vehicle.
2024 Chevy Trax
This subcompact SUV took a year off in 2023 and returned with a second-generation subcompact barely recognizable from the first. The more fashionable exterior is longer, wider, and lower, delivering a more stable ride and increased interior space. A new powertrain accelerates faster while getting better fuel mileage, and there are more standard tech and driver features than ever, all at a lower price than before. Chevy has also added the ACTIV trim with improved chassis dynamics and creature comforts like heated seats.
2024 Chevy Trailblazer
Chevy’s other subcompact crossover also got a big update for the 2024 model year. While not a new generation, this facelift includes larger standard infotainment and digital instrument screens, an eye-catching new front fascia and wheel designs, and a push-button start. They’ve also made a high-definition rear camera standard on all trims. For 2025, Chevy made the Trailblazer and Trax engines compatible with E85 fuel to give you more options when driving across the Southeast.

2024 Chevy Traverse
The Chevy Traverse moved to its fourth generation in 2024, making this full-size crossover larger than life. The new 2.5L turbo-four engine has even more power and torque (328 hp and 326 lb-ft) than the previous 3.6L V6. The eight-speed automatic transmission is smoother than ever, and the exterior and interior were redesigned for sleek modern comfort. Off-road enthusiasts can grab the new Traverse Z71 trim with increased ground clearance while people who like a sporty edge now have the fully-loaded Traverse RS.
2024 Chevy Silverado HD
The 2500HD is already a heavy-grade truck, and the 2024 edition builds on this. The Duramax V8 6.6L engine has been retooled, increasing it from 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque to 470 and 975, respectively. The tech is all-new with a bigger 13.4-inch touchscreen on most trims, a new button layout, and improved Transparent Trailer assistance. Exterior styling is now more relaxed, belying the aggressive beast underneath. The 2025 model adds the Trail Boss package, giving off-roaders another option for tackling The Ridge or Morris Mountain.
2025 Chevy Equinox
The fourth generation of Chevy’s compact crossover shows development on the Equinox EV hasn’t affected their commitment to the gas-powered version. The new Equinox is 2.3 inches wider to improve ride quality. New transmissions are present with a CVT on the FWD Equinox and an eight-speed automatic on the RWD. It also sports all-LED lighting, larger infotainment and digital gauge screens, squared wheel wheels, and unique fascia for each trim. Like the Trax and Trailblazer, the Equinox now has the ACTIV trim for athletic performance.
Extraordinary Tech for a Personalized Experience
We alluded to the impressive tech when discussing the model refreshes, but the technology in Chevy trucks and SUVs deserves its own mention. After all, where else do you get an 11-inch infotainment touchscreen in a subcompact crossover like the Trax and Trailblazer? Even the “entry-level” Trax and compact Colorado are loaded with standard features on most trims, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, an eight-inch driver information center, multiple USB ports, WiFi hotspot capability, and active road noise cancellation. You can add wireless charging, rear USB ports, and three years of SiriusXM satellite radio for even more goodies.
The bigger vehicles have the tech to match. For example, the Traverse has a best-in-class 17.7-inch touchscreen with six USB plug-ins, and higher trims are available with a premium Bose sound system. Meanwhile, most Chevy Silverado trims have a 13.4-inch infotainment screen with a built-in Google Services suite and optional head-up display. GM knows how important modern vehicle tech is and fills their trucks and SUVs to the brim with it.

Enjoy the Latest Driver Assistance and Safety Features
Another important aspect of present-day driving is safety. Whether you’re bringing the kids to football practice or navigating rush-hour Birmingham traffic, good safety makes you confident all the while. That’s why all Chevy trucks and SUVs have the Chevy Safety Assist package standard. This includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, a following distance indicator, forward collision alert, lane keeping assistance, lLane departure warning, and IntelliBeam automatic high-beam headlights.
An HD rear vision camera, remote starting, and Teen Driver mode are among the other universal assistance features in every Chevy SUV and truck. Depending on the vehicle, standard and available add-ons can include adaptive cruise control, speed limit assistance, distracted driver detection, and a three-year subscription to OnStar Remote Access. Some vehicles can be purchased with Super Cruise tech for hands-free driving on compatible roads. It’s no wonder Chevy vehicles consistently receive top safety scores from the IIHS and NHTSA.
Award-Winning Vehicles to Find Your Road
When you choose a Chevy, you’re choosing a ride recognized as the industry’s best while being remarkably affordable. For example, the Chevy Trax won the Cars.com Best Car of 2024 award and was named to the Car and Driver 10Best Trucks and SUVs list. The Chevy Silverado 1500 was a Cars.com Top Pick for Light-Duty Towing among pickup trucks. The Chevy Colorado was the 2024 MotorTrend Truck of the Year and the 2024 Edmunds Top-Rated Truck. The Chevy Suburban has won the U.S. News & World Report Best Large SUV for Families award four years running (2021-2024).
