Chevy or Ford? It’s a debate as well known as dogs or cats and Coke or Pepsi. In most cases, the choice comes down to personal preference, but there are times when one option stands as a clear winner. In comparing the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the 2024 Ford F-150, one is inherently superior—not just for quality and value but for innovation, style, and overall driving experience.

Let’s dissect these two pickups in the categories of performance, safety tech, trims, and durability. We’re confident the facts will show the Silverado 1500 as the optimum choice. As a dedicated Chevy Silverado 1500 dealer, we’re also confident that we’ll be seeing you soon!

Performance: Where the Rubber Meets the Road

The Chevy Silverado 1500 has proven itself to be devoted to quality, with the capability to get the job done. The F-150 holds a similar standing as Ford’s top model, so it’s hard not to get excited comparing the two, especially with as much history as these two have behind them.

The Silverado 1500 comes in at a 13,300-lb maximum towing capacity versus the F-150’s 13,500-lb maximum. It’s a difference of 200 lbs, which is a rather marginal difference in towing might. In addition, the Silverado 1500’s exclusive diesel engine—an option not available to Ford trucks—gets a robust 495 lb-ft of torque and 310 hp. This model’s max payload weight is a generous 2,260 lbs, which is just slightly below the F-150’s 2,445-lb best rating. The difference is not likely to cause any differences in performance.

While the F-150 has a powertrain that generates 640 lb-ft of torque and 720 hp, those figures are walled off behind the exceptionally expensive Raptor R trim. The Silverado 1500’s specs are more evenly balanced and attainable at a more affordable price, such as with the 6.2-liter V8 that’s available on most trims, getting 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. When it comes to towing and hauling with consistency, the Silverado 1500 can more than rise to the occasion—and without breaking the bank.

Safety Tech: Protecting What Matters Most

The F-150’s tech fare for 2024 skews heavily toward towing with features that aid with backing up and hitching. This tech outfit also includes a head-up display that projects real-time data such as speed, time, and temperature. Also available is Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free interstate driving feature, which is exclusive to higher trims; this tool will allow the driver to relax with their hands off the wheel during certain cruising conditions.

Meanwhile, the Silverado 1500 offers a larger span of technology options, most of which are geared toward improving capabilities or reinforcing safety. The Chevy Safety Assist suite comes standard on all trims of the Silverado 1500 and includes six driver assistance features meant to bring you greater awareness, better reaction time, and peace of mind behind the wheel. These include Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, IntelliBeam High Beam Assist, and an HD Rear Vision Camera.

For towing, the Chevy Silverado 1500 gets Trailer Blind Side Alert, to warn you when you intend to merge and there’s a vehicle in your extended blind spot while towing, as well as a camera array with up to 14 different views so you can keep an eye on your haul every mile down the road. And if parking isn’t your strong point, the Silverado 1500 has your back with Front and Rear Parking Assist.

Trims & Options: Styles for Miles

As with the majority of models, the Chevy Silverado 1500 and the Ford F-150 bring a great range of trims and options to the table.

In the F-150’s lineup, we have the XL, STX, XLT, Tremor, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Raptor R trims for 2024, listed here in order from lowest to highest MSRP. Some of the features available across the trims are geared at connectivity, such as the SYNC 4 system with enhanced voice recognition and a 12-inch LCD screen. If you’re into exploring off of the beaten path, the Trail Control with Trail 1-Pedal Drive and Fox Live Valve shocks can help with all of your off-roading needs. Should the worst happen, all trims come with a one-year subscription to Ford’s Stolen Vehicle Services.

The Silverado 1500 offers the following trims, starting with the lowest MSRP: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, LT Trail Boss, RST, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2. There is a vast array of options available across these trims. If you’re a fan of luxury, there are interior upgrades like perforated leather front seats and authentic wood pore trimming. If better tech is your jam, the Silverado 1500 provides a 13.4-inch touchscreen display with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen to enjoy your music and more while on the road.

There are exciting exterior additions, too, such as power-retractable assist steps and a center grille bar, bumpers, and door handles to match the body color of your truck, further customizing your pickup to your preferences.

In addition, the ZR2 Bison Edition comes with unique AEV front and rear differentials, front and rear bumpers, AEV-branded head restraints and floor liners, and an AEV-branded box decal. It also has your choice of a 3.0L turbo-diesel engine or a 6.2L V8 to help power all of your off-roading adventures. This trim is devoted to style and rough-terrain capabilities in an eye-catching package of exclusive features.

Durability: Tailgates and Off-Roading Features

How does 89.1 cu.ft. of cargo room sound? That’s the bed space the Silverado 1500 offers, along with twelve tie downs, each rated at 500 lbs per corner, so you can be certain that you’ll have the room for your load and you’ll be able to keep it securely in place the entire trip. Are you wondering how you’ll get the load up there? With the six-way Multi-Flex tailgate, you’ll be able to choose the configuration that works best for loading, unloading, and getting into the bed of the truck.

The Ford F-150 also has an upgraded tailgate that will swing outwards as well as the standard up and down movement. Its main feature comes in the form of an onboard electrical power supply that offers multiple outlets for powering tools, compressors, or appliances.
