There are many aspects of the Silverado 1500 that make it our favorite light-duty, full-size truck on the road—and not just because we’re a Chevy dealer. One of the main things we love about this pickup is how many options there are for it, giving you the freedom to get the perfect truck with everything you need. As you look for a Chevy Silverado 1500 for sale near Vestavia Hills, you can find nine different trim levels available, which gives you fantastic customization options. Still, it can also be a bit intimidating.

That’s a huge number of options, not to mention different things like cab and bed configurations or the four available engines, all of which can be difficult to fully explore. For this reason, we decided to focus on the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom trim specifically to showcase what it brings to the road and help you determine if it’s the right pick for you.

Where Does the Custom Fit into the Silverado 1500 Lineup?

One of the best ways to start understanding any trim or option for a vehicle is to look at where it sits overall within what’s available for that model. Since the 2024 Silverado has nine total trim levels available, that’s a large amount of variety, and there are massive differences between the starting model and the top-end High Country trim. The Custom option sits one level above the starting WT, giving you a number of upgrades over the starting model without going overboard. If you want a great truck that can get some serious work done but you don’t need all the extras, then the Custom is a fantastic model with a lot to offer.

Custom Configuration Options

Looking at the Silverado Custom, let’s start with how you can configure it. The Silverado has five total configuration options—combinations of different cab sizes and bed lengths—but they’re not all offered with every trim. The Custom is available in three different sizes, so keep that in mind when exploring your options. It starts with a double cab featuring front and rear seats and a standard bed that measures about 80 inches in length. If you’re looking for a truck with a more spacious and comfortable interior, then there’s a crew cab available that gives you more room inside for your passengers and the belongings you need to take with you; this option is offered with either the standard bed or a short bed that measures about 70 inches in length.

The TurboMax Engine

Powerful full-size trucks are all about their engines, which Chevy understands better than anyone else. The Custom model keeps things simple by coming with the standard engine, so you don’t have to worry about comparing what’s available. Chevy’s impressive 2.7L TurboMax engine delivers 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, making it a powerful and capable standard engine. It comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission for a smooth and responsive driving experience, and you can get the Custom with either two-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD).

You get a standard High-Capacity Suspension Package on the Custom that’s designed for daily driving, making it perfect for getting around Vestavia Hills. In terms of capability, the standard TurboMax engine delivers impressive power and performance, though your configuration choice also impacts what your truck can do. A double cab model with 2WD offers up to 2,050 lbs of maximum payload capacity and up to 9,200 lbs of max towing. If you go with a crew cab model with 4WD, on the other hand, then you can get up to 2,020 lbs of payload with the short box and up to 9,000 lbs of maximum towing capacity.

Exterior Details

As you check out the Custom, you’ll find a beautiful example of Chevy’s approach to design and styling that creates a powerful truck. The Custom has 20-inch Bright Silver aluminum wheels wrapped in all-season tires, with body-color front and rear bumpers, and a CornerStep rear bumper that makes it easy to get into and out of the bed or reach items you need from inside it. The Silverado Custom has 12 fixed cargo-tie downs rated at 500 lbs per corner, giving you fantastic options for loading up with cargo and keeping it secure. You get LED cargo bed lighting in the Custom model, with heated power side mirrors and a standard tailgate with EZ Lift assist, power lock & release functionality that makes it easier to use your truck. Chevy offers numerous exterior color options for the Custom, including Red Hot, Summit White, and Lakeshore Blue Metallic, giving you gorgeous options to get the look you want.

What’s Inside?

Moving inside the Custom, we find a number of great features that you can enjoy while driving around Vestavia Hills. Whether you are traversing Route 31 to get to work or taking a trip out to Oak Mountain State Park, the interior of the 2024 Silverado 1500 Custom is fit for you. You’ll find a Chevrolet Infotainment 3 System with a 7.0-inch diagonal color touchscreen inside with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a six-speaker sound system and a 3.5-inch Driver Information Center display. The Custom comes with cloth seating, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat with under-seat storage, a standard steering wheel, and rubberized vinyl floor mats. You get Remote Keyless Entry and Remote Start functionality on the Custom, which makes it easy to get going in the morning, along with cruise control, numerous USB ports for charging devices, and standard climate control.

More Available Options to Consider

Even though the Custom is close to the base-level Silverado 1500 WT, you still have a number of additional options and packages you can get for it. The Dark Essentials package, for example, enhances the Custom’s styling with Black bowtie emblems and lettering, while the Dark Appearance package includes High Gloss Black wheels, Black chrome exhaust tips, and even a ChevyTec spray-on bedliner. Chevy offers three Assist Step and Tonneau Value packages for the Custom with different styles of steps and covers; plus, a Rally Edition brings numerous options together with a spray-on bedliner, four-inch assist steps, and much more.

One final option we should note is that Chevy also offers a similar trim with some important differences: the Silverado 1500 Custom Trail Boss. This is an off-road version of the Custom trim, which includes a Z71 Suspension designed for hitting the trail thanks to its two-inch factory lift. Available only with 4WD, this option includes a two-speed Autotrac transfer case for optimal performance and control while going off-road, an automatic locking rear differential, skid plates to protect its underside, and much more. So, if you like the features of the Custom and you’re interested in going off-road around Vestavia Hills, then consider the Custom Trail Boss.
