Shopping around for either a 2026 Ford F-150 or Chevy Silverado 1500 for sale near Pelham? You’ve come to the right place at Edwards Chevrolet 280. We’re truck experts here, and Shelby County experts. So we’re perfectly positioned to guide local drivers towards the pickup right for this area.

For many drivers looking in the light-duty, full-size space, the choice often comes down to the Silverado 1500 or the Ford F-150. As models from two of the top names in the truck game, we get it. However, we’ve found that local drivers from more walks of life have found that the Silverado 1500 was the right fit, compared to the Ford F-150.

The reason the 2026 Silverado 1500 has a broader appeal is simple: it’s generally more affordable, has more diverse trims, and has more efficient engine choices. There are a couple of other perks to this pickup, and we’ll get into them below.

#1 – The Silverado 1500 Is Right for Wallet-Conscious Pelham Drivers

If you’re looking to maximize your investment—spending less without getting less—the 2026 Silverado 1500 is going to catch your eye. Its starting trim sits well below the F-150’s starting trim, and its highest trim is still priced lower than the F-150’s highest trim.

The starting Silverado 1500 WT trim starts at just under $37,000, solidly in the budget-friendly price range, especially for professionals looking to use their truck for business operations.[a] On the high end, the Silverado 1500 ZR2 sits at $71,700.[a]

Now let’s look at the price range of the Ford F-150. Its starting model, the XL, starts at $39,330. At the top of the lineup sits the Raptor, which reaches just over $79,000. So you’re looking at a difference of already a couple thousand between the Silverado 1500 WT and the F-150 XL. By the time you get to the top of the lineup, the price difference is quite pronounced with the F-150’s Raptor at nearly $8,000 more than the Silverado’s ZR2.

The Silverado 1500 also has more mid-range models, creating more possibilities for those looking to splurge a little, without going overboard. It offers two models in the $40,000 range and four models in the $50,000 range.[a] The F-150’s models sit primarily at a higher price point, with only four models in total below $60,000.

#2 – The Silverado 1500 Has the Multi-Flex Tailgate

Both adventurous and industrious Pelham drivers can appreciate the 2026 Silverado’s unique tailgate. Whether you spend your days on jobsites, at campsites, or even just running errands, the Multi-Flex Tailgate makes big tasks and daily ones a breeze.

This tailgate can be set to six different configurations. There’s the primary gate, which operates like a traditional tailgate. Then there’s the primary gate load stop, which helps keep long items in place when the tailgate remains open.

The easy access setting lets you fold down an inner gate, putting you closer to your bed’s contents. The full-width step setting lets you fold the tailgate down into a full-width step, capable of supporting 375 lbs. The inner gate load stop keeps second-tier items in place. And finally, the inner gate can be configured into a convenient work surface to fill out paperwork and handle similar admin tasks.

So, what type of tailgate does the Ford F-150 have? It offers its Pro Access Tailgate, which is unremarkable compared to the Multi-Flex Tailgate. The Pro Access Tailgate can swing out, like a regular door, to put you closer to your bed’s contents. But that’s the only function it offers beyond the usual tailgate functions. The Silverado’s Multi-Flex Tailgate offers that with its fold-down inner tailgate, and then adds all of the other benefits.

#3 – More Mid-Range Off-Road Options

While we did already touch on the Silverado 1500’s more mid-range prices, we wanted to take a moment to talk about a specific trim type it specializes in.

Chevy made the interesting decision to give the Silverado 1500 three off-road trims: the Custom Trail Boss, the LT Trail Boss, and the ZR2. What we like about these options is that they create an easy entry into the off-road world for those who are new to it, or who don’t need all of the bells and whistles of a serious off-road model.

The Custom Trail Boss, for example, adds a couple of rugged features like a two-inch lift, mud-terrain tires, and skid plates, while staying in the low $50,000-range.[a] The LT Trail Boss is essentially the same as the Custom Trail Boss in terms of capabilities, but adds some technology and convenience perks.

The ZR2 is the serious off-road warrior, complete with its off-road cut front bumper and Multimatic DSSV dampers. But, for those who just like the occasional off-road adventures or just enjoy excursions around Pelham, the Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss should get the job done, while still serving as solid daily drivers.

If you’re looking at the Ford F-150, its two off-road trims—the Tremor and the Raptor—are more serious off-road vehicles, with the price tags to match. The F-150 doesn’t offer those off-road “light” options that the Silverado 1500 does.

#4 – The Silverado 1500 Engine Options Favor Efficiency

Both the Silverado 1500 and the Ford F-150 offer a range of powertrain options, from those that prioritize fuel efficiency to those that prioritize power. However, in our experience, people who look at the light-duty truck space (as opposed to the heavy-duty one) often do so because they’re looking for a truck that can do hard work and be a daily driver.

So, what we like about the Silverado 1500 is that it offers one engine type that the F-150 does not: a diesel engine. A diesel gives you better fuel efficiency and a great amount of power at the same time. The 2026 Ford F-150 does offer a hybrid option to compete with this, which offers good horsepower and torque; however, it doesn’t provide nearly as much towing power as the 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel I-6 in the 2026 Silverado 1500. Based on the 2025  EPA estimates (because the F-150’s estimates aren’t out yet for 2026), the Silverado 1500 diesel also outdoes the F-150 in fuel efficiency, and you can configure it in either RWD or 4WD. And, it’s affordable. So you save money the day you buy and get better fuel economy.
